Cobby Cup Update 15 July

As of today we have just 4 confirmed entries for the Cobby Cup Timed and Observed Trial.

This is an advance entry only event as there is planning, organising and paperwork that needs to be done in advance.

Some members were a little unsure of what the event was all about so Maureen has posted a really comprehensive summary of what a Timed and Observed Trial is on Facebook – have a read? (Copy at bottom of this message FYI)

The last time the award was presented was in 1999, when Wayne Holdsworth won the event, so many of our members will not have seen this type of Trial

We also need 15 Observers booked, in advance (Including riders when not competing if necessary) – we have just one volunteer so far!

Scoring is done on a score Sheet – not punch cards – so there can be no self-marking.

The final decision will be made on the 22nd July as to whether we run this event – however we are determined to have some sport on that day so we do have a Plan B.

If there is insufficient interest, there will be an Open Charity Trial held on the same day at Hut Hill with replica Coby Cup awards for class winners and a donation being made to a nominated charity.

An Entry form can be downloaded from the Waltham Chase Website. Please keep an eye on TMX and the Waltham Chase website for further updates.

If the Cobby Cup doesn’t take place this year it certainly will in 2017!

Some people have asked ... What is a timed and observed trial?

Well here goes.., There will be 15 sections marked with 2 routes. One easy one a little harder.

You walk entire 15 sections first then collect your bike and take to start line.

The first rider is timed out and each rider goes off at 30 second intervals. Sections are ridden in numerical order - you will ride 2/3/4 laps depending on level of riders ability.

The first rider back sets the time and time penalty points are added as each finishes.

Each section is observed and your section score will be recorded on a clip board. You don't stop just ride on to the next section and the next. You may find there is more than 1 rider in a section at any one time that's part of the fun! Marshals will be along the route ensuring all riders take the same lap around Hut Hill.

You must enter this event in advance- we need to know who is riding so you are entered in the correct class! A 3 lap trial of 15 sections should take about 2 hours at most- you are limited to a maximum speed of 15 miles per hour! We need your help to observe and Marshal other classes.

Entries should be sent to Mike Wiseman by next Thursday 21 July 2016

If we fail to get enough entries this event will be cancelled and a charity trial run in its place.

Some people have commented about trashing bikes.. You won't it is just a fun event but set
