Next Waltham Chase Trial

The next Waltham Chase Trial is our first “Easy Trial” of 2018, which being held at Hut Hill, Chandlers Ford this Saturday, 24th February.

Post Code SO53 3YJ gets you close to the venue and then look out for the “Yellow Arrows”.

The gates are open from 9.30, with the Trial starting at 11.00. Please do not arrive before 9.30 as you may have to queue on a busy main road.

The sections will close at 3.00.

There will be ten sections over three laps marked out for C, D and E routes, with the sections suitable for newcomers and those wanting a little “practice”.

As an option you can sign on as “Unclassified”, with a blue card, and ride as many, or as few sections as you wish on any route.

This is a great opportunity to practice in real "Trial" conditions for newcomers.

Entry fees are: Adults £15.00, Seniors £12.00 and Youth Riders £8.00.

One day Club Membership and ACU licence is also available for a nominal charge.

Offers to “observe” would be appreciated.

To save time on the day you can download an entry form from the website or FB to complete in advance.

Please note: There is no catering van at this Trial so do bring along some refreshments or pop into the ASDA store just down the road where you can buy some lunch and also find washroom facilities.

 

 

 

Youth Age Groups

We have had several enquiries regarding the size of bike a youth rider can ride (Santa has been very generous it seems- but may not have had an ACU Handbook on the sleigh!)

I have copied the rules, straight from the ACU Handbook at the bottom of this article.

However, in summary, we are relaxed about riders riding up, or down a class, and at Club level do not worry about “Wheel Sizes” for electric bikes, however in all cases the rider must always comply with the maximum capacity for their actual age.

From the 2018 ACU Handbook:

 

A Class born between 01.01.2001 and 31.12.2002 (125cc)

 

B Class born between 01.01.2003 and 31.12.2005 (125cc)

 

C Class born between 01.01.2006 and 31.12.2008 (80cc)

 

D Class born between 01.01.2009 and 31.12.2012  (80cc)

Note: To ride a Combustion engined machine the rider must have attained 6 years.

E Class Minimum age – 4 years and born after 01.01.2013. Note: The rider must have attained 4 years at the date of the competition.

ENGINE CAPACITY/WHEEL SIZE FOR ABOVE AGE GROUPS The maximum permitted for machines used in the Age Groups set out in this Regulation are as follows: 

A Class 125cc Mono or 250cc Twinshock combustion engine, and Electric up to 10bhp measured at the rear wheel.

B Class 125cc Mono or 250cc Twinshock combustion engine, and Electric up to 10bhp measured at the rear wheel.  Twinshock machines over 125cc must have twin rear suspension units and drum brakes as at the time of manufacture. 

C Class Standard Wheel 80cc combustion engine, and Electric up to 7bhp measured at the rear wheel  

C Class Medium Wheel 80cc combustion engine Electric up to 7bhp measured at the rear wheel

D Class with Medium Wheel 80cc combustion engine Electric up to 7bhp measured at the rear wheel 

D Class with Small Wheel 80cc Combustion Engine Electric up to 7bhp measured at the rear wheel

E Class Small Wheel Electric powered machines up to 2bhp measured at the rear wheel.  

Wheel sizes Standard Wheel – 21" Front – 18" Rear Medium Wheel – 19" Front – 17" Rear Small Wheel – 16" Front – 14" Rear The above is based on the wheels of combustion engined machines using motorcycle tyres. If other wheels are used as on current Electric powered machines, then the outside diameter (total circumference) of the tyre must not exceed that of the corresponding tyre size.

 

Engine Sizes 

Rebores are permitted subject to the resulting engine capacity not exceeding a tolerance of +3cc. 

Criteria for riders wishing to ride in any higher class: • Events below National status – a rider may compete in any class higher than that of his/her age group at the discretion of the organizers. • National status competitions – a rider may at the discretion of the Trials and Enduro Committee be permitted to ride in the higher class. Applications to be made in writing. Criteria for riders wishing to ride in any lower class: 

 A rider may enter any event in a class below that of his/her age group on a “no award, no points” basis.
