Events information is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Observers

A couple of things; firstly, Observers are key to making our events happen – without them there would be no trials. There have been two reported incidents in the Centre recently where in one case a rider was abusive to an Observer and in the second a rider aggressively challenged an observer’s decision. Both cases were escalated to the Centre. Had it not been for one of the Observers not wishing to “cause upset” the rider concerned would have been excluded and possibly suspended from ACU Trials for a period.

Please respect all officials, regardless of gender, they are all volunteers and do their very best for the riders.

We do have at least one member who will no longer observe due to a similar incident with a rider occurring in the past – there may well be more.

An Observer’s decision is “final” at the section. If you have any concerns with marking talk to the Clerk of Course.

On a similar theme, it is worth noting that from the TSR’s “the displacing of any marking not relating to the competitor’s route will be considered to constitute a failure.”

Its worth having a read of the rules.

Secondly, we are still short of Observers for our next Trial on the 23rd March, offers to observe are appreciated, with the usual £20.00 paid.

A reminder that it is a condition of Waltham Chase membership that all members should Observe or provide an Observer for one Trial each year. If you have not had your turn yet here is the opportunity! We are incredibly lucky that we have several volunteers who turn up for duty regularly.

Please email walthamchasetrials@outlook.com  if you are available on March 23rd.

If you would like to “Observe” but need a little support or training, please get in touch and we can buddy you up with an experienced for a trial – a good way to learn.

Stalled and Pending Sport80 Entries

A Quickie: Pending entries and any left in “The Basket” are lost when the Club closes a Sport80 Event – leaving an entry at “check-out” does not save the slot.

If you have any problems when entering, we can usually resolve.

Unauthorised Riding

We have had incidents reported where riders who are not entered or “signed on” have been riding friend’s bikes at Practice Days.

This is a big “No” and is not allowed under any circumstances. Its only when something goes wrong and there is an incident that you realise why.

If you have someone who wants to ride at a Practice Day who is not an ACU licence holder, we can supply a day licence and book them in to ride manually. Please email the rider details in advance so that a day licence can be allocated.

Club Clothing

We will have a selection of branded Club Clothing on display at the next Trial. Our new supplier also offers a service of embroidering the Waltham Chase Club Logo on to your own garments. Details at the Trial.

Trophies

Trophies not collected at the Presentation will be available after 11.00am at the next two Trials.

Any trophies that are not collected by then will be recycled for next year.

Pre-67 and Twin Shock Activity

We have a couple of Club Members and a Committee Member looking at ways to enhance local “Classic” Trials. If you have any thoughts, please let me know. Many of these older bikes are tucked away in garages and not being used. Sadly, I am guilty as charged! Watch this space. We may well have a plan!

We are holding the John Wright at Limekiln Lane, Ramsdean on Sunday 20th April. This is a super venue, that we can only visit once a year, with all natural sections and a long ride between the sections to clear away the cobwebs.

This Trial is open to all, with Club Championship points only allocated to Waltham Chase Members. Awards allocated depending on class entries.

The main award, The John Wright Trophy, is presented to the best Pre-67 rider.

The entry is now open via: https://acu.sport80.com/public/wizard/e/204901

More details in a couple of weeks, but it will be all the usual stuff – cutting out help, observing and yes, Debs will be there!
